Estee Lauder Cosmetics

Estee Lauder is one of the world’s best selling cosmetics companies. In addition to facial cosmetics, the company sells skin care, perfumes, and hair care products. The company is well-known for many business “firsts”, including being the first women’s cosmetic company to launch a line for men.

Another first was reached when the products were allowed to be sold in the Soviet Union. Estee Lauder is known recognized around the world as a quality cosmetic product, yet accessible to women of all ages. Founded in 1946 by Joseph Lauder and his wife Estee, the product line began simply, with some facial creams. The products were initially sold in department stores in New York City, and quickly expanded across the country and eventually the world.

Almost all department stores with cosmetic counters now feature an Estee Lauder cosmetics counter. In addition to department stores, a small portion of the products are also available at drugstores and large supermarkets. The Estee Lauder cosmetics company has worked with several celebrity spokesmodels over the years. Most notably, the products have been promoted by Elizabeth Hurley, Gwenyth Paltrow, and Carolyn Murphy. Estee Lauder calls these spokeswomen simply “faces.”

Over the years, Estee Lauder has acquired many other cosmetics companies, and is the owner of several well-known lines including Aveda, Bobbi Brown, MAC Cosmetics, Clinique, and Origins. All of these lines sell nothing but the highest quality products, all supervised by Estee Lauder. Current products sold under the Estee Lauder cosmetics name include all types of facial makeup products, facial moisturizers and cleansers, nail polish, and makeup tools. Skin care products include anti-aging creams, lotions, self-tanners, makeup removing products, toners, and exfoliators.

Estee Lauder is recognized as a leader in breast cancer activism and awareness. Over $10 million dollars has been raised by the company for breast cancer research, mostly through sales of featured products and pink ribbon campaigns. The Estee Lauder cosmetics company is still owned and managed by the Lauder family. The board of directors is made up primarily of Lauder family members. Estee Lauder herself passed away in 2004, at the age of 95. She was the family matriarch and proud user of Estee Lauder products until the end. The products she originated continue to be best sellers, and are well-loved by women the world over.
